Might the next big startup be home grown?

The global event “Techstars Startup Weekend” returns to Traverse City this spring. At the weekend-long event, participants learn how to think, work, and build like a startup in just 54 thrilling hours.

Techstars Startup Weekend is an exciting and immersive foray into the world of startups. Over an action-packed three days, participants meet the very best local mentors, investors, co-founders, and sponsors to get more done faster — and, maybe even start that business.

This year’s event will take place at Northwestern Michigan College’s newly constructed Innovation Hall May 13-15th. Participant registration starts at $65 and includes full weekend access, meals, t-shirt, sponsor packages, and more! Learn more about Startup Weekend Traverse City.

When I look at what participants from the first TC Startup Weekend are doing for the local and regional Startup Ecosystem now, I can’t help but be excited for some of the ideas and opportunities that will spring up this time around,” said Bradley Matson, event organizer. “The local startup community is much more vibrant now, and new ideas can be plugged into a more robust community network of resources.”

Traverse City’s last local Startup Weekend event was in 2014 and included participants that went on to form or join local companies. There have been a number of successful companies that have started out at Techstars Startup Weekends over the years. While there are teams who choose not to continue working on their products following the event, there are many teams that elect to further build their startups. Some have gone on to raise funding and become major players in their local, or even global ecosystems.

Startup Weekend TC is open to all creatives, professionals, startup enthusiasts, programmers and anyone with an idea or willingness to help build something new. Come with an idea, or join a team. Ideas get pitched Friday, teams form, and we spend the weekend making those ideas a reality. The teams’ work is then presented Sunday and our panel of judges pick the winners.

Northern Michigan Startup Week

This event is part of Northern Michigan Startup Week, a celebration of entrepreneurship, innovation, and the growing startup community in Northern Michigan May 9-15th. Northern Michigan Startup Week is open to everyone – students and adults. It’s for everyone with curiosity or an idea they want to explore, those who want to make new connections, and those who want to get in on the action of building something new.
